Telehealth in LTC: Models and Best Practices

November 6, 2018

Speakers Angela Evatt, MPP, MA, and Justine Springer, MPH, introduced telehealth technology to attendees, showing how it can be integrated into clinical care in innovative ways. Presenters began by giving an overview and background of telehealth and the current landscape regarding its adoption nationally. They shared information that demonstrates the tremendous opportunities for pharmacists in hospitals, long term care (LTC) facilities, and other health care settings to use telehealth to improve care and reduce costs.

Two telehealth projects conducted in Maryland were specifically highlighted: one involving remote patient monitoring in palliative care patients; and one focused on reducing transfers from LTC facilities. Discussions of these projects included practical and legal considerations such as implementation, best practices, legal considerations, and policy and administration implications.
